The Patronal Festival of St Michael & All Angels, Efenechtyd
On Sunday 3rd October at 2pm, we are holding the annual Gwylmabsant festival at our church.
A number of years ago the Feat Stone was rediscovered at the back of the church and, through research, the festival of Gwylmabsant was re-established.
This patron saint celebration event will include a short service, throwing of the Feat Stone, hugging of the church plus tea and cake.
The Feat Stone (101 lbs) was traditionally thrown backwards over the head by the young men of the parish to determine the champion for the coming year. The distance thrown in the churchyard was then measured with the winner claiming the longest throw.
Over the years, we have had a variety of ‘stone throwers’ from all over UK. This year, Paul Thorpe from Wrexham will demonstrate for us his skills.
