This quiet prayerful sanctuary draws many to sit in quiet contemplation. A gentle 1.5 mile stroll from the centre of Ruthin that almost transports you back in time – and at the same moment offers a timeless space to rest in God’s presence.
The Mother Church of the Vale of Clwyd – that is the first church in the areas – was founded in c400AD by St. Meugan (otherwise known in South Wales as Maughan and in Cornwall as Mwgan) who was physician to the Roman General Vortigern.
The present building dates from the 15th century. Notable features include its oak screen and the remains of a 15th-century churchyard cross.
Mae’r cysegr gweddigar tawel hwn yn tynnu llawer i eistedd mewn myfyrdod tawel. Taith hamddenol 1.5 milltir o ganol Rhuthun sydd bron yn eich cludo yn ôl mewn amser – ac ar yr un foment yn cynnig lle bythol i orffwys ym mhresenoldeb Duw.
Sefydlwyd Mam Eglwys Dyffryn Clwyd – dyna’r eglwys gyntaf yn yr ardal – yn c400AD gan Sant Meugan (a elwir hefyd yn Ne Cymru fel Maughan ac yng Nghernyw fel Mwgan) a oedd yn feddyg i’r cadfridog Rhufeinig Macsen Wledig.
Mae’r adeilad presennol yn dyddio o’r 15fed ganrif. Ymhlith y nodweddion nodedig mae ei sgrin dderw ac olion croes mynwent o’r 15fed ganrif.
