Bible Reading – Later, a man named Joseph from Arimathea asked Pilate for the body of Jesus. Nicodemus went with Joseph. He brought about 100 poundsof spices—a mixture of myrrh and aloes. These two men took Jesus’ body and wrapped it in pieces of linen cloth with the spices. (This is how the Jews bury people.) In the place where Jesus was killed on the cross, there was a garden. In the garden there was a new tomb. No one had ever been buried there before. The men put Jesus in that tomb because it was near, and the Jews were preparing to start their Sabbath day.
Prayer – listen quietly to Gideon Heugh’s spoken word ‘Fear – An Easter Poem’. Jesus’ body was taken down from the cross and placed in a newly made stone tomb. His friends and family must have thought that this was the end of Jesus. Sometimes when awful things happen, it seems as if things will never be good again. It’s like a long winter after Christmas. But can you see the snowdrop? What does this flower make you think about springtime, and hope?
Activity – Gather some stones together and, using one letter per stone, write in felt tips the words ‘Jesus dies’. Now take the letters and rearrange them to say ‘Jesus side’. Because of Jesus’ death, we can all come side by side with God

Bible reading – Very early Sunday morning, the women came to the tomb where Jesus’ body was laid. They brought the sweet-smelling spices they had prepared. They saw that the heavy stone that covered the entrance had been rolled away. They went in, but they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. They did not understand this. While they were wondering about it, two men in shining clothes stood beside them. The women were very afraid. They bowed down with their faces to the ground. The men said to them, “Why are you looking for a living person here? This is a place for dead people. Jesus is not here. He has risen from death.”
Activity and Prayer – Create an empty tomb ‘den’ at home out of anything you are allowed to use – pillows/laundry airer/duvets/cushions/tables etc! Sit inside to pray thanks and excitement for what Jesus has done for you
Jesus is love. Our universe is built on and by love. Anything caused by hatred, anger, lies or fear has been smashed into pieces because love is alive! Death couldn’t hold Jesus down. Because Jesus has beaten death, there is nothing in the world that He doesn’t have power over. We may still struggle with things, but Jesus is alive and one day there will be NO MORE suffering and pain!
